Dr. Preethi, also known as Dharavathi Preethi, was a 26-year-old junior anesthesiologist from Telangana, India. She was a graduate from Kakatiya Medical College (KMC) in Warangal, where she was pursuing her postgraduate degree (MD) in the Department of Anaesthesia.
On February 22, 2023, Preethi allegedly attempted suicide by injecting herself with a lethal substance after facing harassment from her senior colleagues at KMC. She was admitted to a hospital in Hyderabad but unfortunately succumbed to her injuries on February 27, 2023.
Preethi’s family claimed that her death was not a suicide but a murder and demanded justice for their daughter. They alleged that she was facing harassment from her seniors, which led to her taking the extreme step. The incident has sparked outrage and has brought to light the issue of harassment in the medical profession.
Updates on the case are yet to be released as investigations are still ongoing. The medical fraternity has come forward to condemn the incident and has called for strict action against those responsible for Preethi’s death.
