D Roopa, also known as Roopa Divakar Moudgil, is a renowned IPS officer and the current Managing Director of Karnataka State Handicrafts Development Corporation. She was the first woman Kannadiga IPS officer serving in Karnataka. Personal life
D Roopa was born and brought up in Davanage, Karnataka, to highly educated government servants, J.S. Divakar and Hemavathi. She has a younger sister named Rohini Divakar, who is an IRS officer of the 2008 batch. D Roopa is married to Munish Moudgil, an IAS officer, and has a daughter named Anagha and a son named Roshil.
Career
After completing her graduation, D Roopa cracked the UPSC Civil Services Examination in the year 2000 on her first attempt and was ranked 43rd in the exam. She opted for the IPS and was fifth in rank amongst IPS officers of the 2001 batch. She has served in various positions, including Superintendent of Police, Deputy Commissioner of Police, DIG, and Inspector General of Police.
As a Superintendent of Police initially, she arrested Uma Bharati, the CM of Madhya Pradesh, at Alnavar following court orders for a 10-year-old rioting case. While she was DCP in Bangalore city, she withdrew police staff who were unauthorized to be deployed as orderlies to serve VVIPs and influential politicians, thus allowing for optimum utilization of the police force under her. She was also the first Superintendent of Police of the newest and 30th district of Karnataka.
D Roopa is the first lady Superintendent of Police to head the cybercrime division in Karnataka. As DIG of the Criminal Investigation Department leading the economic offenses wing, she organized some drug awareness programs for students as part of the social role and responsibility of the police. She has been effective in solving a number of confronting and high-profile cyber crimes and created awareness amongst the general public about cyber crimes and cyber laws.
Currently, D Roopa is serving as the Managing Director of Karnataka State Handicrafts Development Corporation.
